The Internet will spew democracy far beyond capitalism’s control. A dramatic increase in the number of PWW readers, especially among union families. Something new will come along to replace Twitter.
Big political shifts are under way
The yearning in our country for a new direction and new priorities has taken hold in the 2008 elections. Voters turned out in record numbers for the primaries, propelled by economic necessity and determination to end the war, and inspired by the historic breakthrough of a woman or an African American as a major party candidate for president.
Reality check needed
After the government announced June 6 that last month’s jump in the unemployment rate was the worst in more than 20 years, a few corporate mouthpieces admitted that the economy might have “stalled.”

Cuban Adjustment Act: still deadly 40 years later
For decades the U.S. has used the 1966 Cuban Adjustment Act to manipulate Cuban emigration for counterrevolutionary purposes. Its provision that Cubans arriving on U.S. soil gain permanent residency after a year has lured thousands to death by drowning as they sought to cross the shark-infested Florida Straits. They end up receiving work permits and Social Security numbers and need not provide affidavits of support.

Sicko a powerful mix of humor, pathos
Michael Moore, the activist author and filmmaker, has given every union member in the United States a great tool of advocacy for our health care agenda with his new movie, “Sicko.” We should return that favor by turning out to see it in big numbers.
