Far right targets McKinney

Five-term Democratic Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) faces a tough primary challenge, spearheaded by the Atlanta Journal Constitution and backed by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Both have targeted McKinney for her refusal to join the stampede in support of Israel’s war against Palestine and its people.

World labor organization condemns Israeli genocide

In a statement released from its headquarters in Prague, The Czech Republic, the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) condemned the Israeli rocket attack on Gaza City on July 22 that killed 15 Palestinian civilians, including nine children.

Violence continues in Jammu and Kashmir

NEW DELHI, India – Violence in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), one of the Indian states, seems to have no end. Lives of innocent people, mainly from the working class of Kashmir Valley, are still held at gunpoint. The last major incident, which took 28 lives, was in Rajiv Nagar, Jammu, July 12. Pakistan-based Lashkar-E-Toiba took responsibility.

Coup dtat plotted in Venezuela

The following is a statement of the Communist Party of Venezuela. Another coup conspiracy is in progress. The very same ones who tried to overthrow democracy on April 11 are, at this moment, moving forward with a plan to impose a de facto regime upon the country. By paralyzing the city of Caracas, they are trying to create a climate of destabilization, in order to justify an uprising by coup-plotters who are still present within the Armed Forces.

In the spirit of fair play . . .

The cover article of the July 15 Time lived up to my expectations. Titled, “Should you be a vegetarian?” it was loaded with negative terms about vegetarianism and the majority of pro-vegetarian “experts” interviewed seemed to be quoted out of context or were easily-dismissed youth. We gather at a moment when genocide is being perpetrated on the Palestinian people by the Israeli government, backed by U.S. rulers. Mankind is witnessing the brutal massacre of innocent people and shameless violations of international laws and U.N. resolutions.

Tear line means attack on health civil liberties

Tom Ridge, head of the White House’s Homeland Security Office, says that new anti-terrorist rules and regulations will not infringe on the health rights of people. He uses a new term, “tear line,” to refer to the line between the demands of anti-terrorist rules and people’s rights. In this case the federal department of Health and Human Services (HHS) stands to lose important activities.

Texas peace group: Are we safe yet?

DALLAS – The North Texas Coalition for a Just Peace is targeting August 11 for workshops on the theme: “Are we safe yet?” The four expected topics are: nuclear threats, international relations, domestic civil liberties and the environment. The event will be held at Grace Church in East Dallas.
