9/11 events will call for just and peaceful world

Peace and human rights organizations throughout the country will hold peace actions during the week of Sept. 11 to commemorate the terrorist attacks of last September and to press for peace and international cooperation. Slogans of the events include “work a day for peace,” “our grief is not a cry for war,” and “from ground zero to common ground.”

Bush readies Navy to act against longshore union

LOS ANGELES – Thousands of unionists, AFL-CIO leaders, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, and elected officials voiced solidarity with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) at Labor Day events here as the dockers announced a Bush administration warning that trained Navy dockworkers from bases around the world have amassed in nearby San Diego, prepared to take over West Coast ports in the event of labor action.
