Philadelphia Community rallies to save hospital

PHILADELPHIA – Overflow crowds are becoming commonplace in the battle to save historic Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital since the announcement Dec. 18 by Tenet Healthcare Systems of its plans to close the facility. The hospital has been serving Philadelphians since 1850.

Philadelphia Nurses reject contract

PHILADELPHIA – Nurses at the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital (MCP), on strike for nearly a month, rejected Tenet Health Care Corporation’s latest contract offer on Dec. 1.

U.S. military attacks Iraqi trade unions

A U.S. occupation force involving 10 armored vehicles and dozens of soldiers attacked the headquarters of the Iraqi Federation of Trade Unions in Baghdad, Dec. 6. They arrested eight of its leaders and members, who were handcuffed and taken away to an unknown destination. The eight were released the next day with no explanation. click here for Spanish text

MILWAUKEE – Most of the 30 or so people filling the Green Dragon Freedom Café here Nov. 26 had been participants in the protests surrounding the Free Trade Area of the Americas summit in Miami.

Grocery strike solid

VENICE, Calif. – Several hundred workers and supporters from the community turned out in front of a Ralphs Market here Oct. 18 for a rally in support of the striking grocery workers.
