Rex Auggie Waldron, man of steel, dies
Brother Rex Waldron, known to all as “Auggie,” died on Dec. 5, from stress-related conditions. He was 49. A lifelong resident of Lorrain, Ohio, Auggie was a much loved and respected leader of the United Steelworkers of America (USWA).
Mamie Till Mobley, heroic mother, mourned
CHICAGO – Mrs. Mamie Till Mobley, mother of lynching victim Emmett Till, died here Jan. 6, at age 81. She was a quiet, unassuming and deeply religious fighter for civil rights. Her funeral was attended by national figures such as Dick Gregory and Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Dancers soar for skywalkers
Review: Dance NEW YORK – Mohawk high-steel workers were honored here recently in a dance/theater piece called “Eagle Spirit.” Because the ironworkers walk through a space which belongs to feathered beings, the program’s theme was affinity with eagles.
